Sun Day is a national movement of action and celebration of the clean energy revolution. Organized by a soalition of grassroots organization, it's a day to show lawmakers and decision makers that Americans want affordable and reliable clean energy. In 2025, Sun Day will be observed nationally on September 21. September 21 was selected due to it being the day of the Solar Equinox when the whole world gets an equal amount of sunlight. It is also a day that happens to land shortly before the UN General Assembly's annual meeting.
This year, Sun Day takes on renewed urgency as a global clean energy rallying cry. A day where the average American can get involved, attend a local event, and express to their local and national lawmakers why now, more than ever, we must not turn our backs on clean energy. Especially in light of recent policies undermining the cause.
What Is Sun Day?
Sun Day is a day of action celebrating the power of solar, wind, and battery technologies. It's a day when communities across the US come together to celebrate those who are furthering the clean energy movement and for others to learn about how clean energy can imrpove their live. It's a day for rallying lawmakers to create policies that make renewable energy accessible to all. It’s a celebration of progress and a call to push harder.
How to Get Involved

Many grassroots groups, Third Act working groups, solar coalitions, schools, housing advocates, farmers, and more are hosting community events nation wide (and even some international events!). There are so many ways to take part in Sun Day!
Draw a Sun: symbolic sun artworks are collected worldwide to show solidarity and hope.
Organize an Event: Whether its a concert in the park, local clean energy home tours, a solar installation dedication, or a policy rally, Sun Day organizers provide guides and support to help you get started.
Attend an Event: Sun Day events are happening virtually and in-person nationwide and even some international events. For Cook Count residence, there is an event happening from 1 PM to 4 PM at The River Hub at Graco Park in Minneapolis.
Why Sun Day Matters Now: The Defunding of Clean Energy
Despite the growing affordability and job opportunities of solar and battery power, the true heart of the clean energy revolution, the current administration has slashed funding and incentives for clean technologies. This makes Sun Day even more vital, especially as a push policy change. Celebrating clean energy advancements on this day isn’t just symbolic, it’s a rallying cry. Continuing to build solar capacity in the U.S. and advocate for clean energy policies is crucial if we’re to counteract policy rollbacks from the current administration.
So embrace the sun, join the movement, and rise with a clean energy revolution that refuses to dim, even when the political winds shift.
